Michelle O’Brien is an arts manager, curator and creative producer for international cultural organisations, specialising in large-scale arts and music festivals. Over the past decade Michelle has delivered over 20 international festivals and strategic campaigns for acclaimed cultural institutions across UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Germany and Cambodia. These include Sydney Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, transmediale festival for art & digital culture Berlin, Digital Art & Sound Weekend Berlin, New Forms Festival Vancouver, International Symposium of Electronic Art Sydney, Underbelly Arts Lab & Festival Sydney, FBi Radio Sydney, SUPERMARKT creative resource centre Berlin and Our City Festival Cambodia. She is currently Head of Programming for Berlin’s Summit for Music Makers.
Michelle is a Fellow of Australia Council for the Arts’ Emerging Leaders Development Program and European Festival Association’s Atelier for Festival Managers. She is a jury member for apexart New York’s international curatorial grant program apexart Franchise, and founding curator of the online platform for arts and festival managers, The Festival Circuit.
Michelle holds a Master of Arts in Media Studies [Creative Media] with Distinction from University of Brighton. She is an exhibiting artist with a focus on documentary photography and an independent curator with a focus on media and digital arts, open source culture and creative skill-sharing. With expertise in arts programming, creative producing, creative project strategy and delivery, large-scale event production and audience development, Michelle’s passion lies in facilitating community-focused cultural initiatives and establishing sustainable collaborations between local and international creative communities.
